4 Months!

Nicky is 4 months old today!  Here are his milestones:

Rolls to his side and is so close to rolling completely over
Eats: Solids twice a day mixed with cereal
       Applesauce
       Bananas
        Sweet Potatoes
Lifts neck and head up during tummy time, but hasn't figured out how to use his arms to push his chest up.
Sleeping through the night 90% of the time.  He only wakes up if he has wet the bed. (Seriously, this kid can pee.  He can soak through a diaper one size bigger than his norm.)
Still no hair

Hates:
   Tummy time :(

   Being held like a baby 
Loves:
    Chewing on fingers (the middle three)
    Going sockless
    Sitting in the bumbo
     Eating food!
    Spot the dog toy
    Look at himself in the mirror

Dr. appointment next week, so we will see how much he has grown. Also, when I previewed these pictures, his hair looks a little red.  Some days it looks red, some days brown, other days blond.  There just isn't enough of it to tell.  Poor kid is going to be bald until he is 5 like me.  Luckily he doesn't have to sit through the torture of velcro bows.

A Beautiful Day Outside!

We put down a blanket yesterday (on the sidewalk, ground is still soaked) and had some fun outside!

"Come on! I'm bored inside with these trucks. Let's go outside and play with some real dirt!"

Baby food

I've decided to make my own baby food. I stopped by the store and picked up some supplies.  FYI...sweet potatoes in May...not a good price.  I got some sweet potatoes and carrots. Don't tell the doctor that we started food.  He wasn't quite 4 months when we started and we aren't supposed to start without consulting a doctor.  Oops.  The boy is hungry!

Store baby food costs $0.94.  I got twice as many carrots for this price.  Sweet potatoes not such a great deal, but they would be on sale or during a holiday when they are much cheaper.

 While waiting for the food to cook, Nicky and I had some playtime.

"Is it done yet?  How much longer?  How bout now?"

"Why is it taking so long????"

And then he quit helping me.

Then put in ice cube trays for freezing.  All this from two potatoes....The same as 10 jars of baby food

Into the freezer....Notice how the grownups get the frozen pizza and french fries.  The baby gets the homemade healthy stuff.

Once frozen, I put the cubes into freezer bags until I need them.

 Now on to tasting.  These pictures are actually of Nicky eating bananas for the first time.  I also made those fresh...they just weren't as complex.  Bananas mashed with a fork.

 All in All...it was actually pretty fun to make.  Since these pictures, Nicky has tried the sweet potatoes and is unsure about them.  We're going to try them again tonight.  Mommy thinks they are disgusting and smell like pumpkin....but I'll pretend like their delicious for Nicky's sake.

After dinner this evening, we were in the living room and Nicky was in a very silly mood.  He was cracking up watching Charlie.  Charlie was running around with a toy and Nick was pulling the toy from him.  Nicky thought it was the funniest thing he has ever seen!  In the video he is laying on my leg watching the dog on the floor below.  Big Nick is playing with the dog and recording Nicky at the same time so it's a little shaky.  I'm laughing in the background as well.  I've never heard him laugh like that before.  The scream towards the end is my favorite!

 

FOOD!!

Nick has really taken an interest in anything that we have been eating lately.  He is really jealous and wants what we have.  The past few days I have given him just a few tiny bits of rice cereal just so he can get used to taking something from a spoon and learning to use his tongue the right way.  Tonight at dinner, we were having applesauce and big Nick gave Nicky just a tiny bit from his spoon.  It was over from there!  The kid was hooked.  He fussed for more and more.  I eventually grabbed a jar of baby food applesauce from the cupboard and started feeding it to him.  He took quite a bit. He was actually grabbing the spoon and shoving it into his mouth.  We didn't get the video out until he was finished, so the footage doesn't show how excited he was.

I guess we have an eater now.  I have to start making baby food now.  Yep you read that correctly....i'm gonna make it myself.....for now.  Don't worry, I'm sure it will be hilarious and i'll document the process.

Grandpa Moo-Moo

This weekend we had a visit with Great Grandpa John also known as Grandpa Moo-moo.  Nicky was such a good boy and played with Grandpa Moo-moo for about an hour before getting tired.  Great Grandpa is fascinating to Nicky with all his songs and whistling. I forgot my camera so the pictures are taken with our phones.  Sorry for the blurry pics:

Shorts!  We got way hot today with the temps so we broke out the shorts.  By the way these are a 0-3month size and were barely staying on. No chubby babies here.

Mothers day

I remember last Mother's day thinking, "Maybe by next mother's day I will be pregnant and about to have a little one."  Little did I know that I was probably already pregnant and a few days later would take a test and say, "NICK!!! What the hell is that?  Is that 1 line or 2?  Why wouldn't they make that clear?  It's half a line!  Am I half pregnant?  WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???!!!!!"  Then we promptly went to the grocery store at 10pm on a weekday to get a digital pregnancy test.  After a looong car ride home (seriously after chugging a bottle of water and almost peeing at a traffic light, there was no mistaking the YES clearly on the stick.

Busy Weekend!

We had a big weekend!  We headed to Toledo Saturday morning for Aunt Jessica's graduation.  Nick slept the whole way there. Once we got there we set up at the hotel.

 Next we headed to the zoo. Our very first zoo trip. After a short downpour, and a bit of a fit, we had a great time at the zoo. These are probably out of order because I am too tired to sort them out and am just posting them all at once.

Back at the hotel, we tried out the pool. Nick hates the bath, so we figured the pool would be a disaster.  He was a little nervous but did well until it got too chilly:

Nicky slept an all time best of 7 hours that night.  All time best up until last night when he slept 9 hours all through the night.  I woke up at 6:45 this morning totally amazed and surprisingly not rested.  Sunday morning we went to the graduation ceremony.  We were quite nervous considering the thousands of people and Nicky's history of hating crowds.  In the 3 hours we were there, he did fabulous!  He made it all the way to the last 15 minutes without crying!
